How to delete your data

Uninstalling CodWatchdog from your Shopify admin is the deletion request for what we hold about your store. When we delete your store’s data, 48 hours later, we also stop Meta sending us notifications about your number’s messages; pressing Disconnect WhatsApp in CodWatchdog’s Settings before you uninstall stops them at once. Either way, if another of your stores still uses that WhatsApp account, they go on for that store.

• Shopify notifies us the moment you uninstall.
• 48 hours later, Shopify asks us to delete your store's data, and we delete your shop record, WhatsApp connection, stored access token and order records, with your customers' phone numbers, except Meta's message identifiers, which stay in our log for up to 12 months as our privacy policy describes.
• Shopify's mandatory data-erasure requests (shop/redact and customers/redact) are acted on when they arrive.

Until then, Meta can keep sending us notifications about messages to and from your number, which we keep as our privacy policy describes.

You do not have an account with CodWatchdog and never signed up for one. We hold your phone number because the store you ordered from asked us to send you an order confirmation.

• To stop the messages immediately: reply STOP to the WhatsApp message. That is recorded straight away, and CodWatchdog will not message you for that store again while the store uses it.
• To have your data deleted: email support@codwatchdog.com from any address, with the phone number that received the message. You can also ask the store you ordered from; Shopify passes their request to us, which can take up to six months if you ordered recently.

We action deletion requests within 30 days and normally within a few working days. You will get a reply confirming it is done. We do not require you to prove your identity beyond the phone number itself, because asking for identity documents to delete a phone number would collect more data than it erases.

• Your phone number on that store's orders.
• That store's record of whether it may message you, where it matches the number we are given. If you replied STOP, we keep the opt-out, so CodWatchdog does not message you for that store again while the store uses it. When the store asks Shopify to erase your data, we find your record from the number Shopify gives us, with or without its country code, and the opt-out we keep holds no readable phone number. If Shopify gives us no number we can read, or a different number from the one your orders were sent to, the record keeps your number.
• The order number and amount in the messages sent to you, and the button you tapped.

Meta’s identifiers for messages sent to you, and for your replies, contain your phone number in a form that can be decoded. They stay in our log of Meta’s notifications for up to 12 months, the longest history any store’s plan keeps.

Meta keeps messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform for at most 30 days, as Meta’s documentation says, and they are not ours to delete. The messages were sent from the merchant’s own WhatsApp Business number.
